A well crafted lager. Crisp, dry and full of well balanced hops. Winstate Annual 1995 said : "Pale straw colour with fine lacing;"worty" notes and aromatic hops in nose. Full malt flavour and body with pleasantly bittered finish. A well-balanced premium lager with enough fresh hop character to make it a standout".

Another Queensland drop. The brewery is in the little country town of Eumundi behind the Sunshine coast. The brewery used to be housed in a typical Queensland country pub but the main brewery is now on the Gold Coast. The old pub is well worth the visit special on a Saturady when the local markets are on. Quite a palatable lager.

CUB's international beer, Australia's answer to Heineken and other mega brands. Don't know of too many people who actually drink it in Australia. If you are outside Australia and this drop is in your local bottle shop don't expect to see other CUB products as Fosters is often brewed under a licencing agreement that states that CUB cannot sell any of its other brands in the distribution area.

Hahn describes Hahn Premium as "brewed using genuine German Hersbrucker hops, grown on the Hersbruck Hills North of Munich. The German hops add a high aroma value to the brew, with a relatively low level of bitterness. The hops are added very late in the brewing process to highlight their aromatic quality and provide a fresh, green and herbacous aroma."

I am not a great fan of the pilsener style but this beer is well worth the drinking. This is what Dr Chuck Hahn had to say ""Using a much higher hopping level than most Australian Lagers, James Squire Original Pilsener is brewed with Czech Saaz and New Zealand Belgian Saaz aroma hops to produce the pronounced floral spicy finish and the wonderful herbaceous aroma. Ê Food suggestions: A perfect accompaniment to any spicy dishes, such as fiery Indian curries and chilli-enhanced Thai stir-fries. In addition, itÕs perfectly at home with those German sausages and sauerkraut.""

Being a Queenslander (It's the beer we drink up here the slogan goes), I am bias. I grew up with XXXX. For an Australian Pilsener it is pretty good. May/June 1995 Winestate said : "Easy to Spell and easy to drink. Floral nose with good upfront sweetness on the palate and pronounced malt flavours. Lingering bitterness on the finish. A real thirst quencher". Castlemaine describes XXXX Bitter as "A traditional Australian lager with a clean, crisp taste and a satisfying after-bitterness. XXXX Bitter's delicate aroma comes from the blending of two hop varieties and a sweeter, fruity tang from the yeast. High drinkability in warm climates. "
