Wheat beers are those beers which are principaly produced from wheat rather than malted barley. There are two distinct styles that are produced in Australia which are both European styles. Those styles are the German Weizenbier and the Belgian Witbier. The later has coriander and orange peel used in the brewing process which gives it a very floral nose and the citrus taste on the palate.
Both styles are ideally suited to light summer beers that go well with the Australian summer. I believe this is one of the best things to happen to Australian beer in quite some time. Last edited 23 August 2001
